Rhythmic Gymnastics is the perfect combination of art and sport in which individual or groups of gymnasts perform skillful manipulation of apparatus such as rhythmic gymnastics ribbons, clubs, balls, hoops, ropes.  Movements of gymnasts also incorporate elements of dance, gymnastics, acrobatics and ballet.

Rhythmic gymnastics involves the exciting and challenging creation of new movement patterns with body and apparatus.  In competitive rhythmic gymnastics, choreographed routines incorporate a balance of pivots, leaps, jumps and flexibility movements which cover a 46'x46' floor space.  The routines demonstrate gymnasts' physical abilities of endurance, dexterity, agility, flexibility, power and strength.  A panel of judges determines points based on level of execution, apparatus handling, pivots, balances and leaps.

Although the sport is primarily enjoyed by women, our recreational program is for boys and girls, especially for active and energetic toddlers and preschoolers.

Rhythmic gymnastics remains a very relatively young sport in the Olympic Games. Initially, the rhythmic gymnastics individual competition was first introduced in Los Angeles games of 1984, where Canadian, Lori Fung, was a gold medalist.  Later in the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, team competition was added.

The Pivot Turn

requires leg strength as well as tension and good balance. It is important for the body to stay in the upright position with the support leg bearing the weight or else it may not be possible for the gymnast to maintain balance throughout the turns.
